As an avid hiker who was already using the Hoka Trail Runners, I liked the idea that my shoes would help me reach the end of the trail, or “your happy place.” With the help of the picturesque Palos Verdes coast, I was able to create this ad to showcase the shoes being used to their full potential, while expanding on the brand identity of adventure and performance.

Peanut M&Ms are a universally loved snack for people of all ages, and I wanted to showcase the nostalgia of the snack that has been around for generations. The “Family Size” reminds us that this is something that we should share with the people we love, so we can all enjoy it together.

A couple tries to reconnect on their day off.
The Off Day is a special film because it combines two obsessions of mine- botanical gardens and shooting on film. I knew I wanted to explore loneliness in relationships and contrast that visually with the vibrant colors of the garden.

Sammy is an important film to me because it encapsulates an awkward time in my life. I wanted to convey feelings of embarrassment and sexual jealousy. I did this by writing scenes that made the audience feel uneasy and shooting them in uncomfortable close-ups.
Sammy struggles with his manhood while witnessing his Dad, who he lives with, have success on dating apps.

Collaborated with New Zealand Artist Sam Charlesworth for his new single Heaven Knows.
I wanted to highlight the two key emotions of this song, loneliness and regret, by filming Sam in isolation in the desert.

Sam Syrett is a filmmaker based in Los Angeles, originally from the coastal neighborhood of Venice Beach. He traded California’s warm weather for the Midwest to study film and television at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
Sam primarily works in commercial production, but he’s most passionate about creating independent films that allow him to sharpen his storytelling and directing skills. His work often captures the awkward, humorous, and heartfelt moments in everyday life.
